Flight crew reported the oil filter bypass light illuminated. The light would not go out at reduced thrust as per the QRH. They performed number 1 engine shutdown and diverted to nearest suitable airport.

Title: A B737NG flight crew shut down the left engine and diverted to the nearest suitable airport in response to an illuminated oil filter bypass light.
