Narrative:

After making the missed approach at dgg airport we followed the missed approach instructions - 'climbing left turn to 3;800 ft direct awamy and hold.' the problem is that at 3;800 ft we were unable to contact anchorage center and receive clearance to our alternate airport. We were unable to contact kotzebue radio either. Eventually (about 1 1/2 turns in the hold) another pilot on the frequency established a relay for us to get clearance to climb higher from anchorge center.the FAA should change the missed approach holding altitude to 8;000 ft or higher at awamy. In the mean time; establish a policy that requires us to request an alternate missed approach holding altitude clearance before losing contact with center when cleared for the approach.
