Narrative:

I attempted to lift up the cover to compartment 1-2 in the forward galley. The hinges to the cover were not attached to the aircraft; but rather propped up and in and the door was braced shut by only the 2 locking pins on the bottom of the door. By disengaging the locking pins the door released forward and the tracking mechanism on top created an angled fold-out that hit my forehead and I subsequently caught the door with my hands. I placed the door on the floor of the galley and called to the flight deck to inform them.
