Narrative:
Self briefing from den FSS using recordings. Departure west from apa (centennial) to colorado #285 (highway) via pilotage. Noticed forest fire on north side of route. Passed less than 5 NM from fire. Overheard on flight watch that this was declared a sua. Did not get that information from FSS recordings earlier. Saw no other traffic. Suggest it would be helpful to ensure this information is on all FSS recordings and also because of proximity to local airports, ground control or tower could alert departing pilots in that direction of this sua or to contact FSS for further information.
