Narrative:

Climbing out from phx-slc on DRK2.drk departure center issued 340 degree heading to direct bryce canyon. I requested to fly the departure (over drk). A conflict occurred next...I thought controller said 'stay on departure and I'll get back to you with a vector'. He said 'stay on 330 degree (right or heading) and I'll get back to you.' I stayed on the departure and turned at maier (18 DME drk 127 degree). A few miles later, controller issued a clearance, 'immediate right turn 40 degree,' we complied! No traffic was seen. I feel that if I read back the 'stay on departure' instead of 'roger' this would have been corrected by abq center controller. As it was, I flew the published departure and made turn at maier and conflicted with other flow. Telephone call to abq center radio clearance and readback was issued.

Title: ACR LGT DEVIATED FROM CLRNC ROUTE.

Narrative: CLBING OUT FROM PHX-SLC ON DRK2.DRK DEP CENTER ISSUED 340 DEG HDG TO DIRECT BRYCE CANYON. I REQUESTED TO FLY THE DEP (OVER DRK). A CONFLICT OCCURRED NEXT...I THOUGHT CTLR SAID 'STAY ON DEP AND I'LL GET BACK TO YOU WITH A VECTOR'. HE SAID 'STAY ON 330 DEG (R OR HDG) AND I'LL GET BACK TO YOU.' I STAYED ON THE DEP AND TURNED AT MAIER (18 DME DRK 127 DEG). A FEW MILES LATER, CTLR ISSUED A CLRNC, 'IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN 40 DEG,' WE COMPLIED! NO TFC WAS SEEN. I FEEL THAT IF I READ BACK THE 'STAY ON DEP' INSTEAD OF 'ROGER' THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED BY ABQ CENTER CTLR. AS IT WAS, I FLEW THE PUBLISHED DEP AND MADE TURN AT MAIER AND CONFLICTED WITH OTHER FLOW. TELEPHONE CALL TO ABQ CENTER RADIO CLRNC AND READBACK WAS ISSUED.
