Narrative:

As we were vectored for a visibility approach to lga runway 22, we encountered no abnormal radio performances. Flight was being flown by first officer. I instructed the first officer that I would be taking control of the aircraft after landing and earlier than my usual time as lga is a tight fit for aircraft handling. I took control of the aircraft at what I believe to be approximately a third of the way down the runway. Lga tower advised us to turn off at C taxiway. I illuminated the runway turnoff lights, but was unable to positively identify taxiway C. Lga tower advised us to expedite to the end. I turned off at the end. While traveling on the runway from taxiway C to the end, another air carrier flight was cleared to land. We were still on the runway and the aircraft landed. While taxiing we received conflicting instructions from tower and ground. We taxied in front of other air carrier aircraft consistent with ground instructions. Taxi to the gate was uneventful. Supplemental information from acn 107948: at the start of the approach the captain said he'd take the aircraft from the first officer after the landing. I felt this would prolong the rollout on this short runway but reasoned that was what the captain was trying to prevent. We landed and were told to turn off on an intersection. It was dusk and we had some difficulty in identing the taxiway. Thorough prior viewing of the airport diagram may have enabled us to identify the turnoff and/or tower notification of an aircraft close behind and to plan an early turnoff may have helped prevent the situation. The ground taxi problem was simply congestion.

Title: ACR PLT MISSED TURN OFF FROM RWY AS REQUESTED FROM TWR. LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION OCCURRED AS Y ACR LANDED ON RWY PRIOR TO ACFT X CLEARING. REPORTER CITES CONFLICTING TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND CTL AS ACFT X TAXIED IN FRONT OF ACFT Y ON TXWY.

I INSTRUCTED THE F/O THAT I WOULD BE TAKING CONTROL OF THE ACFT AFTER LNDG AND EARLIER THAN MY USUAL TIME AS LGA IS A TIGHT FIT FOR ACFT HANDLING. I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AT WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE APPROX A THIRD OF THE WAY DOWN THE RWY. LGA TWR ADVISED US TO TURN OFF AT C TXWY. I ILLUMINATED THE RWY TURNOFF LIGHTS, BUT WAS UNABLE TO POSITIVELY IDENT TXWY C. LGA TWR ADVISED US TO EXPEDITE TO THE END. I TURNED OFF AT THE END. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE RWY FROM TXWY C TO THE END, ANOTHER ACR FLT WAS CLRED TO LAND. WE WERE STILL ON THE RWY AND THE ACFT LANDED. WHILE TAXIING WE RECEIVED CONFLICTING INSTRUCTIONS FROM TWR AND GND. WE TAXIED IN FRONT OF OTHER ACR ACFT CONSISTENT WITH GND INSTRUCTIONS. TAXI TO THE GATE WAS UNEVENTFUL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 107948: AT THE START OF THE APCH THE CAPT SAID HE'D TAKE THE ACFT FROM THE F/O AFTER THE LNDG. I FELT THIS WOULD PROLONG THE ROLLOUT ON THIS SHORT RWY BUT REASONED THAT WAS WHAT THE CAPT WAS TRYING TO PREVENT. WE LANDED AND WERE TOLD TO TURN OFF ON AN INTXN. IT WAS DUSK AND WE HAD SOME DIFFICULTY IN IDENTING THE TXWY. THOROUGH PRIOR VIEWING OF THE ARPT DIAGRAM MAY HAVE ENABLED US TO IDENT THE TURNOFF AND/OR TWR NOTIFICATION OF AN ACFT CLOSE BEHIND AND TO PLAN AN EARLY TURNOFF MAY HAVE HELPED PREVENT THE SITUATION. THE GND TAXI PROB WAS SIMPLY CONGESTION.
