Narrative:

After pwrback from gate at fll, aircraft was headed southeast ground control cleared us to 'taxi to runway 9L and if desired back taxi on runway 31.' as we turned right (southbound) I saw runway 31 and proceeded onto runway 31 to back taxi. The end of 31 intersects 27L at this taxiway. Being cleared to runway 9L with the clearance to back taxi on 31, I assumed I was cleared to cross all runways en route to 9L. Ground control stated we had taxied onto 27L without clearance. In the future, I think ground control should specify using taxiway foxtrot then lima to back taxi on 31. Supplemental information from acn 106778. Ground controller said we should have gone to foxtrot then lima taxiway to get onto 31. Also we have gone onto an active runway. From our position, the shortest route to 09L appeared to be the way we went. With the nose of our aircraft pointed at one taxiway and the vagueness of the instructions received, it appeared we were taxiing legally and properly.

Narrative: AFTER PWRBACK FROM GATE AT FLL, ACFT WAS HEADED SE GND CTL CLRED US TO 'TAXI TO RWY 9L AND IF DESIRED BACK TAXI ON RWY 31.' AS WE TURNED R (SBND) I SAW RWY 31 AND PROCEEDED ONTO RWY 31 TO BACK TAXI. THE END OF 31 INTERSECTS 27L AT THIS TXWY. BEING CLRED TO RWY 9L WITH THE CLRNC TO BACK TAXI ON 31, I ASSUMED I WAS CLRED TO CROSS ALL RWYS ENRTE TO 9L. GND CTL STATED WE HAD TAXIED ONTO 27L WITHOUT CLRNC. IN THE FUTURE, I THINK GND CTL SHOULD SPECIFY USING TXWY FOXTROT THEN LIMA TO BACK TAXI ON 31. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 106778. GND CTLR SAID WE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO FOXTROT THEN LIMA TXWY TO GET ONTO 31. ALSO WE HAVE GONE ONTO AN ACTIVE RWY. FROM OUR POSITION, THE SHORTEST ROUTE TO 09L APPEARED TO BE THE WAY WE WENT. WITH THE NOSE OF OUR ACFT POINTED AT ONE TXWY AND THE VAGUENESS OF THE INSTRUCTIONS RECEIVED, IT APPEARED WE WERE TAXIING LEGALLY AND PROPERLY.
