Narrative:

I was busy on approach control and descended medium large transport X in front of an medium large transport Y departure climbing to 5000'. Medium large transport Y reported medium large transport X in sight, but I did not point out traffic to medium large transport X. Standard separation was not lost. The pilot of medium large transport X questioned me and later called the area manager. He seemed satisfied with the explanation. Had I issued traffic to medium large transport X there would have been no doubt in his mind.
