Narrative:

During taxi for takeoff at buf. I taxied up to where I thought the hold line was as the txwys were covered with snow and very slippery. I applied the brakes and slid up to but short of the runway, being as I felt I had to be past the hold line. I contacted the tower and explained that I was not on the runway but closer than normal. He sent large transport around and backed taxied me clear of the runway. It would be helpful in snow areas if hold lines had an edge lighting similar to a blue taxi light except may be red this way you can plan your stop early.
