Narrative:

I was making a right seat takeoff from runway 27 pbi. Upon start of takeoff roll the tower said to turn to 090 degrees at the MM of runway 09. At approximately 1000-1500' we started to turn left to 090 degrees after passing the MM. We told departure control on 128.3 we were turning left to 090 degrees. After 40-50 degrees departure called us and said we should be turning right to 290 degrees and that we never switched frequency as instructed. We immediately turned to 290 degrees and tried to explain 'we called departure with a left turn to 090,' but the controller was upset and switched us to ZMA. All 3 crew members thought we were told 090 degrees by the tower. We definitely repeated 090 degrees to the tower and departure control. We were fct pbi-ewr. There was no mention of a conflict with another aircraft. Recommendations: delete the runway 27 departure phraseology of crossing the MM and replace it with an altitude, turn direction and heading. The crew should have required a response from departure control when they called starting the left turn to 090 degrees. Departure was busy and possible was transmitting when we called them.

Title: ACR LGT ON CLIMB OUT FROM RWY 27 STARTED A LEFT TURN TO 090 DEGREES INSTEAD OF A TURN TO 290 DEGREES AS CLEARED BY TWR.

Narrative: I WAS MAKING A RIGHT SEAT TKOF FROM RWY 27 PBI. UPON START OF TKOF ROLL THE TWR SAID TO TURN TO 090 DEGS AT THE MM OF RWY 09. AT APPROX 1000-1500' WE STARTED TO TURN LEFT TO 090 DEGS AFTER PASSING THE MM. WE TOLD DEP CTL ON 128.3 WE WERE TURNING LEFT TO 090 DEGS. AFTER 40-50 DEGS DEP CALLED US AND SAID WE SHOULD BE TURNING RIGHT TO 290 DEGS AND THAT WE NEVER SWITCHED FREQ AS INSTRUCTED. WE IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO 290 DEGS AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN 'WE CALLED DEP WITH A LEFT TURN TO 090,' BUT THE CTLR WAS UPSET AND SWITCHED US TO ZMA. ALL 3 CREW MEMBERS THOUGHT WE WERE TOLD 090 DEGS BY THE TWR. WE DEFINITELY REPEATED 090 DEGS TO THE TWR AND DEP CTL. WE WERE FCT PBI-EWR. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF A CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT. RECOMMENDATIONS: DELETE THE RWY 27 DEP PHRASEOLOGY OF XING THE MM AND REPLACE IT WITH AN ALT, TURN DIRECTION AND HDG. THE CREW SHOULD HAVE REQUIRED A RESPONSE FROM DEP CTL WHEN THEY CALLED STARTING THE LEFT TURN TO 090 DEGS. DEP WAS BUSY AND POSSIBLE WAS XMITTING WHEN WE CALLED THEM.
