Narrative:

Issued holding instructions by ZAU, 'hold at plant 297 degree right standard turns southeast.' entered hold at FL180. Cleared to descend to 16000' in the hold. Altimeter was given as 30.15 by the controller. It was not realized until our altitude was questioned by approach control at 6000' that our altimeter should have been 30.61. The ATIS then confirmed this setting when we were leaving the hold. Supplemental information from acn 103926: we verified this via ATIS. First controller issued wrong altimeter setting. No conflict noted.
