Narrative:

[Maintenance technicians] were working off of emb 175 maintenance manual 32-11-05 to install the side stay on the left hand main landing gear. The side stay upper section was already installed; and the lower section was sitting on a table behind the left wing. According to the manual; you place the lower section into position and slide the pin through into the upper section; lower section; and the down lock arm and torque the through bolt. The manual does not state that the orientation of the grease fittings is of any consequence. If it had; this problem would not have occurred. I also referred to images attached to the aircraft maintenance manual; and nowhere is there even an image showing the correct orientation. I would like to see [part orientation information] added to the maintenance manuals in the near future to stop this from occurring again.
