Narrative:
Left thrust reverser deferred. Assigned a runway; wind approximately 170/17. [I] asked first officer to request the longer runway if possible. Tower approved request and about 30 seconds later asked for fuel and souls on board. I stated this was in no way an emergency or a request for priority handling and can take any runway. Tower stated he was doing as told. I stated to ATC that we do not have an emergency. Landed uneventfully and taxied to the gate. Emergency equipment was called but I do not believe followed aircraft to gate.
