Narrative:

When we lowered the gear on a normal ILS approach to runway 15 the left main landing gear cockpit indication light did not illuminate. We initiated a go around and followed company checklists for this malfunction. The procedures did not solve the indication. Tower confirmed that the gear [appeared to be] down following a visual check. We declared an emergency; completed a safe landing with crash fire rescue equipment standing by and were then towed to the gate.

Title: Following the failure of the left main gear safe light to illuminate upon gear extension; a B757-200 flight crew performed a go around; declared an emergency and landed safely despite their inability to resolve the anomaly using checklist procedures.
